When was your department founded? DeSoto Fire District #8 was founded in 1987. Prior to becoming a fire protection district, we were an all-volunteer fire department known as Mansfield Volunteers.
What community/communities do you support? We serve the communities of Benson, Carmel, Catuna, Evelyn, Grand Cane, Naborton, Pelican, Rambin, South Mansfield, and Wallace in Desoto Parish.
What kinds of incidents does your department commonly deal with? The incidents we most commonly deal with are first response, EMS, and motor vehicle accidents.
What types of engines do you have? Our main engine, housed at our Central station, is a Spartan Custom Cab.
What fundraisers or other annual events do you host as a department? We participate in various events such as a community food drive on the first Friday of each month, fire prevention programs at our local schools, libraries, and churches, as well as local festivals and parades.

Fire Academy students assist in preparing for Fire Prevention Week activities in the communities that DeSoto Fire District #8 serves.
